TIPS FOR FRESHMEN

ITEMS TO BRING

  • Umbrella / raincoat (MUST! HK rains a lot during September)
  • Formal outfit (useful in many occasions especially for business students)
  • Winter wear
  • Personal clothing
  • Laptop (if you own one) & chargers (no converter needed)
    **if you do not have a laptop, you may opt to purchase it after reaching Hong Kong with student discounts.
  • Sufficient cash
  • Personal medications/ First aids
  • Anything you need for your studies (e.g. calculator)
  • Anything that reminds you about Malaysia! (e.g. Milo, Malaysia snacks or even Malaysia flag)
  • ** Remember to prepare copies for all the documents as well

Buses

There are many types of buses, below are the phone apps you can use to check the live schedules for the buses.

Mini Buses

Minibuses

Green minibuses have fixed routes and fares, passengers may pay a portion of the full fare if they are only travelling a section of the route (tell the driver your destination, driver will change the amount of fare). Mainly serve in New Territories.

**Red Minibuses have no fixed routes and fares, most of the red minibuses accept coins only, change is available but an amount may be deducted by the driver for the inconvenience of handling it. Only a few of these red minibuses accept payment by Octopus card.

Tramways

Also named as “ding ding”, only serve in Hong Kong Island.
